Part 1: I Found Forever Chemicals in My Blood. And so the investigation began.

Here’s something I found out the hard way: I had PFAS in my blood.

Not from living near a factory. Not from some unusual exposure. Just from being alive in Florida and drinking water for decades like a normal person.

Turns out, I’m not alone in being concerned. A 2025 poll found that clean water beat out inflation and healthcare reform as the top issue Americans worry about. Four in ten Americans now distrust their tap water entirely. One in four won’t drink it at all.

And the fear is evolving. Lead has been the #1 contaminant concern for years — but in the last two years, something shifted. What are PFAS? Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances are a class of chemicals used in manufacturing since the 1940s. They’re in nonstick cookware, food packaging, firefighting foam, and yes, most municipal water systems. They break down so slowly they’ve earned the nickname “forever chemicals,” and they can linger in the human body for years after exposure.

Research has linked PFAS to increased cholesterol, thyroid disruption, reduced vaccine response in children, and elevated cancer risk — specifically kidney and testicular cancers.

The scale is hard to wrap your head around. Nearly 97 million U.S. residents have been exposed to unregulated contaminants in their drinking water. Over 143 million people have been exposed to PFAS specifically. University of Florida research published in early 2025 found contamination throughout Florida’s water systems — and most municipal treatment facilities currently remove less than 10% of PFAS before the water reaches your tap.

The EPA only finalized enforceable limits for six PFAS compounds in 2024. Florida public water systems don’t have to comply until 2029. That’s a long runway while the chemicals keep accumulating.

Most people’s response to all of this is either do nothing or spend $3,000 on a whole-house filtration system. There isn’t much conversation about what’s in between.

So that’s the real question this series is asking — not just “which water tastes better?” but how does your body actually respond to the water you’re already drinking, and is there a smarter, more accessible path forward?

My brother went out of town and asked me to housesit. Standard stuff — water the plants, don’t burn the place down.

What I didn’t expect was to spend most of the week obsessing over his water.

For most of modern medical history, Alzheimer’s has been treated as a one-way disease. You might slow the decline. You might manage symptoms. But reversal was not part of the conversation. According to the researchers, the treatment restored memory, reduced amyloid plaques, reduced tau pathology, and improved brain function even in advanced disease models.

That does not mean a cure for humans is here. Animal studies are not the same as approved clinical treatments. But it does mean a line that sounded permanent for generations — “irreversible” — is now under pressure from the data.

And that matters.

Especially because this research did not arrive with a massive pharmaceutical campaign attached to it. It arrived through university and medical center research, the way many of the most important early signals in health do.

In 1900, heart disease was uncommon enough to be considered a medical curiosity. By 1950, it was the leading cause of death in the United States. Levodopa became the standard drug treatment for Parkinson’s disease in the 1960s. Nearly sixty years later, it is still the backbone of care for many patients.

A 7-year-old girl born profoundly deaf is now having daily conversations with her mother. Not through a cochlear implant the crude electronic device that has been the “best available technology” for thirty years. Through one injection. Her own hearing. For the first time in her life.

A team from Karolinska Institutet and partner hospitals in China enrolled 10 patients ages 1 to 24 all born profoundly deaf due to a mutation in the OTOF gene, which transmits sound signals from the inner ear to the brain. Every Spring, I Lost Weeks of My Life

About a year ago I got one of those thermography scans as part of a deep dive on my health. Let’s just call it my mid-life crisis checkup. Just in case there was something bad lurking in my body that I didn’t know about. I was mostly fine, but the doctor who evaluated my scan pointed out my lymph system looked inflamed, and I should do something about it.

So I pulled up Google and worked it over. I don’t like to run, I know I won’t bike and it’s too hot to walk in Florida most of the year. I could see getting more exercise was going to be a challenge for me. Finally I settled on rebounding using a mini-trampoline. Quick, no sweating, and relatively cheap. Just my style.

You know, I didn’t notice ANY difference after several weeks of daily rebounding. So, no great surprise, the rebounder eventually ended up unused most of the time.

Then I got a MetaHunter scanner. So now I could instantly test if the rebounder actually had an effect on my lymph system or not.

The Setup

I used my Meta Hunter scanner, which shows pictures of organs and lymph vessels with little colored shapes on them. Like this one:

Very quick legend for the screenshots:

• Yellow or pink hexagon – things look calm.

• Orange triangle – working hard, upper end of normal.

• Red triangle – early stress.

• Brown diamond – medium problem.

• Black square – biggest stress in that spot.

On the right side of each screenshot there’s a wavy line graph. When the lines are smoother and closer together, the system is more settled; when they spike and spread out, it’s more tense.

What I Did

1. I scanned every lymph‑related section Meta Hunter offers: hands, arms, legs, trunk, abdomen, chest, and internal organs. That’s what the 18 screenshots below show.

2. Then I did four rounds of 10–20 minutes of gentle rebounding on a mini‑trampoline spread out over 24 hours. No other new exercise or supplements.

3. Right after that, I repeated the exact same full lymph scan.

Here are the rest of the scans, quite comprehensive as far as I can tell. You’ll notice a decrease of darker icons from left to right. Note that the exact improvement is expressed as a number above the line graph on the right side of each image:

What Changed

Looking at the “before” and “after” images side by side:

• Many areas that showed stress on the first scan had more yellow, pink, and orange icons after.

• The line graphs on the right generally became less spiky and more grouped together, and the software’s “compensatory reaction” percentages in many regions moved down, meaning less overtime work for those areas.

For the number nerds, the average improvement was 40%. Interestingly, one of my more stressed out areas is my pancreas (aside from the lymph system), but after rebounding, that section of lymph nodes improved 59%. For the detailed observers, the pancreas scan was the only one that mentions “Decreasing of nidus of defeat by 100%” which basically means:

• “Nidus” = the main trouble spot, the little focus where the problem was centered.

• “Defeat” = damage or stress in that spot.

  Translation: “The main problem spot that was there before is now gone on this scan.”

In plain language: on this particular day, with this particular body, my lymph pictures looked calmer and less stressed after rebounding than before. I’ve never seen this kind of improvement across all scans, to be honest. And I’ve got hundreds of scans at this point to choose from.

What I Took From It

This doesn’t prove anything for anyone else, and I’m not suggesting what anyone should do with their own health. It’s simply one very nerdy self‑experiment.

For me, running full‑body lymph scans before and after bouncing was enough to personally verify that rebounding wasn’t just a marketing slogan. On my screens (and in my body) something clearly shifted in the right direction.

Fast forward 40 years. That boy (now a man) discovered he had five “forever chemicals” (PFAS) in his blood despite eating clean, avoiding Teflon, and doing everything the “experts” said was healthy.

That was me. And that discovery sent me down a rabbit hole I’m still climbing out of.

When Water Testing Wasn’t Enough

After finding forever chemicals in my blood, I started testing my tap water. I bought DIY kits. I sent samples to labs. I waited weeks for results and spent plenty of dough.

And you know what I learned?

Without expensive laboratory testing, I couldn’t really prove if my home water filter was doing its job. DIY tests were inconclusive, lab tests were slow and costly. And I had a bigger question nagging at me:

If my water has toxins, what about everything else I’m putting in my body?

I was taking 14 different supplements every single day:

• 9 supplements prescribed by a kinesiology expert.

• 5 more I added myself from Facebook ads, YouTube videos, and friends’ recommendations

I was spending money on supplements but forced to just trust the marketing hype and experts. Not that I’m bitter. (Maybe a little)

But here’s the problem: I’m not that in tune with my body.

Unless I’m cramping from low salt or something dramatic, I don’t always “feel” when a supplement kicks in. I can’t tell if my Omega-3s are helping my heart or my Ashwagandha is calming my adrenals. I just... take them. Every day. Hoping they work.

But I had no idea if they were actually working.

The Search For an In-Home Lab

I needed a way to objectively test everything—water, supplements, food, personal care products—without waiting weeks for labs or spending thousands.

A health professional (and personal friend) in Sweden had mentioned MetaHunter to me a couple of years ago. She used it to test patients to find areas of concern so she could address them.

It’s a bioresonance scanning system that tests how your body reacts to specific substances in real time. It measures “compensation reactions”—whether something strengthens or weakens your organs. The numbers are objective:

• Positive numbers = strengthening (good)

• Negative numbers = weakening (bad)

I spent months researching which system to buy. Then I made a major investment and spent over 100 hours learning how to use it properly.

Testing Others First

Before I looked at my own results, I tested other people. Each person got a full scan. I was developing a methodology, learning the system, figuring out what the data meant.

And then, months after scanning myself, I finally sat down to look at my own results. Well, at least SOME of the results. We are talking 100’s of tests at this point. I had to pick something specific or we’d be here for a week.

Here’s what I discovered.

Testing My Supplement Cocktail

Remember those 14 supplements I was taking every day? The ones from my doctor and from Facebook? I tested them all together as a “daily vitamin cocktail.”

Here’s what MetaHunter found:

My Doctor Said These Organs Had Problems:

My doctor identified seven problem areas through kinesiology:

1. Thyroid

2. Adrenals

3. Brain

4. Prostate

5. Heart

6. Pancreas

7. Kidneys

He suggested nine specific supplements to strengthen them, so I threw them all together (along with a few other supplements I also took every day) and labeled it “Daily Vitamin Cocktail.” Using MetaHunter, I scanned many organs and body systems (not just the list above, but including those) to get the “Before” scans, and then scanned my daily vitamin cocktail against the organ scans.

At the point where I did the scans, it was really the “Monthly Vitamin Cocktail” as I had very poor form when it came to taking my vitamins every day. What can I say. For testing purposes, it was great, as I didn’t already have a fresh batch of daily vitamins in my system.

NOTE: In the scans below, a term is used, “VegetoTest.” VegetoTest is like a “try‑out” test that lets the machine see how a medicine might work on your body before you actually take it.​

Simple meaning

VegetoTest uses a special cup (resonance chamber) where you place a pill, drops, or other remedy so the device can “listen” to its energy pattern or frequency.​ The machine then compares that medicine’s frequency with the “energy picture” of one of your organs to see if they match well or badly.​

What it’s used for

• It helps pick which vitamins, herbs, or medicines are most “in tune” with your body, so they are more likely to help instead of bother you.​

• It can test things that are already in the computer list or new things you bring (like a bottle from home) by putting them in the cup and running the test.

• The computer looks at your organ’s “energy picture” before and after it “tries” a medicine or treatment.

• It then gives a + or - number that shows the change in your body’s compensatory reactions – that just means how well your body is coping or balancing itself.

Back to the 14 supplements. I conducted VegetoTests on my vitamin cocktail, so are the results. The before scan is the left one, the after, the scan on the right.

MetaHunter Said:

Some organs got STRONGER:

• Thyroid: +56%

  

• Brain: +26% to +32%

  

• Prostate: +28% to +45%

  

• Pancreas: +6%

  

But other organs got WEAKER:

• Kidneys: -45%

  

• Adrenals: -35%

  

• Heart: Mixed results (-16% to +2% depending on the view)

  

• Diaphragm: -44% (not on my doctor’s list of things to address)

  

• Spleen: -14% (not on my doctor’s list of things to address)

  

• Left Lung: -24% (not on my doctor’s list of things to address)

  

• Lymphatic vessels: -28% (not on my doctor’s list of things to address)

  

My kidneys were getting 45% weaker while I was taking supplements that were supposed to help them. And it wasn’t just my kidneys. MetaHunter showed my adrenals, diaphragm, spleen, lung, lymph, and parts of my heart were also getting pushed in the wrong direction.

And I had no idea.

I couldn’t feel it. There were no warning signs. No cramps. No pain. Just silent damage happening inside my body, one pill at a time.

The Problem: I Tested Everything Together

Here’s where I made a mistake.

I tested all 14 supplements as one big cocktail. That means I can’t tell which specific supplement is helping and which one is hurting.

Was it one of my doctor’s nine supplements?

Was it one of my five “Facebook/YouTube supplements” interfering with his protocol?

Was it a bad combination of two supplements that individually would be fine?

I don’t know yet.

Now I have to go back and test each supplement individually to find the culprit. I need to dig into the data and figure out which pills are heroes and which ones are villains.

Here’s the thing: I’m not special.

Most people taking supplements can’t “feel” if they’re working. We’re all just trusting:

The Vision: 100 People, Real Data, No Hype

Here’s what I’m building:

I want to run tests on 100 healthy people using common products—coffee, supplements, personal care items, foods that claim to be “healthy.” It’s an endless list.

For each product, we’ll measure how it affects specific organs. Then we’ll publish the average results:

• “This coffee strengthens the liver by X%”

• “This protein powder weakens kidneys by Y%”

• “This supplement has no measurable effect”

The data will be free. Public. Accessible to everyone.

No marketing spin. No corporate funding bias. Just crowdsourced, objective numbers so people can make informed decisions about what they put in their bodies.

But I can’t do this alone.

What I’m Doing Next

I’ll test each of my 14 supplements individually. I need to find out which one is damaging my kidneys by 45%.

Then I’ll decide:

• Do I stop taking everything and start over?

• Do I keep only my doctor’s recommendations?

• Do I drop the Facebook/YouTube ones?

• Do I show this data to my doctor and see what he says?

I don’t have all the answers yet. But that’s the point of Crunchy Nation—getting the data first, then making decisions based on facts, not feelings or marketing hype.

A newly published global report on food systems found that four groups of toxic chemicals commonly used around the world; phthalates, bisphenols, pesticides, and PFAS (“forever chemicals”), are causing between $1.4–2.2 trillion in annual healthcare costs worldwide, plus at least $0.6 trillion more in environmental damage.

Let that sink in. Three trillion dollars every year. That’s roughly 2–3% of global GDP over the 2010–2015 period covered by the report’s data. To bring it closer to home for the United States, as a comparison, our average annual health care costs over the same time period was also about 3 trillion annually.

The Real Costs to Our Families

This isn’t just an abstract economic problem. These chemicals are showing up in everything from plastic packaging to pesticide residues to non-stick coatings on food containers. And the health impacts are devastating:

• Increased cancer rates

• Neurological and cognitive problems in our children

• Rising infertility threatening the future of families everywhere

• Metabolic diseases like diabetes

The report warns that if nothing changes, these chemicals could prevent hundreds of millions of births worldwide by 2100. This is about the survival of our families and communities.

It Starts Before Birth

Perhaps most troubling: exposure begins in the womb. Pregnant mothers pass these chemicals to their babies, affecting development before a child even takes their first breath. The impacts can last a lifetime.

The Environmental Toll

Beyond human health, these chemicals are destroying the natural world we’re supposed to be stewarding:

• Massive costs to remove PFAS and pesticides from drinking water

• Crop losses for farmers trying to feed our nation

• Damage to wildlife and soil health that isn’t even fully understood yet

The Good News: Solutions Exist

Here’s where conservative values really matter. We don’t need massive new bureaucracies or government programs. The report shows that using existing regulations and proven technologies, we could:

• Cut health and environmental harms by 70%

• Save up to $1.7 trillion annually

• Protect our families and communities

This is about common-sense regulation that protects freedom. The freedom to raise healthy children, the freedom from corporate pollution, and the freedom to make informed choices about what we feed our families.

Taking Back Control

The free market works best when consumers have real information and real choices. But right now, these chemicals are hidden in our food system, and most families have no idea they’re being exposed.

Crunchy Conservative values include conserving what matters: our health, our families, and our land. It means not letting corporations externalize their costs onto our children’s health and our healthcare system.

Most of what gets published in medical journals is not solid, certain truth, especially when the studies are small, early, or very “exciting” according toJohn P. A. Ioannidis (pictured above).

In my mind, I lump today’s Medical Journals as an extension of marketing hype. Cousins from the same family tree. And I suspect these cousins are intermarrying and the results are NOT pretty, if you know what I mean.

John is a doctor and scientist who studies how to make medical research more honest, careful, and trustworthy. He is best known for his famous article, “Why Most Published Research Findings Are False,” which you can read here. He is a Greek‑American professor at Stanford University, one of the world’s leading universities for science and medicine. Many people see him as a world expert on how to design, check, and improve scientific studies, especially in medicine.

I offer a simplified version of the paper below, in support of the need for consumers to test stuff on their own —journals are suspect now and more than likely serve as narrative control. If anything, the recent plandemic proved there was more than “science” at play directing the medical profession.

What the paper really says

• Many research “discoveries” later turn out to be wrong or much weaker than first claimed, across many areas of medicine and biology.​

• The author shows with math that, in many common situations, it is actually more likely that a claimed “positive” finding is false than true, especially when scientists are testing tons of ideas at once.​

• This problem is worst in fields that search thousands of genes, nutrients, or other factors to see what “pops up” as statistically significant.​

Why studies often go wrong

• When studies are small (not many people in them) or the real effect on health is tiny, the chance of getting a wrong answer is high, even if the math looks “significant.”​

• The more freedom researchers have to pick which data, outcomes, or analyses to report, the easier it is (on purpose or by accident) to turn a “no effect” result into a “something works!” headline.​

• Money, careers, and strong opinions can push people to prefer “positive” results and to hide or downplay results that don’t fit what they want to see.​

When a field is “hot”

• In “hot” topics where many teams are racing, at least one group will almost surely get a “positive” result just by luck; and that result often gets the most attention.​

• Later studies may completely disagree, causing a back-and-forth pattern of “this works” then “no it doesn’t,” which shows how shaky the early claims were.​

• In some areas with very low odds that any tested idea is truly right, the measured “effects” mostly reflect bias and noise, not real cause-and-effect in the body.​

What can be said for sure

• A single study, even in a famous journal, is almost never enough to be sure something is true about health; you need multiple large, careful, low‑bias studies that agree.​

• It is impossible to know the full truth with 100% certainty in medicine, and there is no perfect “gold standard” that journals or experts can always deliver.​

• Because of these built‑in limits, people should not hand over their health decisions blindly to “authorities” or headlines; they need to look at the details, compare different sources, and pay attention to what actually happens in real life and in their own bodies (as safely and carefully as possible).​

BECOMING A CRUNCHY CONSERVATIVE

Once upon a time, on an island a stone’s throw away from Miami (the one in Florida, not the Miami in Ohio), a boy grew up listening to experts and corporations who claimed to know what was best for his health.

Then he suffered through a lifetime of marketing messages about health and supplements (an estimated 20 to 70 million adverts). After growing up through TV dinners, 10+ fad diets, a ‘Plandemic,’ a corrupt CDC and an entire Food/Medical/Drug Industry bent on addicting him to something; it was clear - the so-called experts and corporations didn’t care about health - only their agenda.

The boy, now a man, realized he had to figure out his health without the experts, and make his own choices & decisions based on factual information devoid of any bias.

The End.

Or was it?

Actually, it was The Beginning.

Having just turned 56 this year, I figured it was time to, you know…check up on a few things health-wise. I won’t admit to a mid-life crisis, but the timing is suspicious.

Through Function Health, I did over 100 blood tests. I was shocked to discover I had 5 out of range “forever chemicals” in my system. Despite a low carb, low-sugar diet of (mostly?) natural foods and avoiding Teflon pans - my body got loaded up with nasty stuff anyway. The common designation for these forever chemicals as a category is PFAS. Unless you’re chemically inclined (like chemist), know what PFAS is short for won’t be helpful - but it’s pronounced like “pee fass” and we’ll just leave it at that.

This test results prompted me to focus on eliminating as many sources of forever chemicals from my life as possible. I purchased a fancy air filter, a shower filter, changed out toxic clothes & shoes, stopped wearing makeup… ok, so I never wore cosmetics, but who’s counting?

You know what’s MISSING in the visual above? You guessed it: water. It goes without saying that clean water is essential. I was already filtering the city water, but was my filter providing PFAS free drinking water?

Some quick research on Clearwater’s municipal water supply (is it clear? LOL) revealed our drinking water is actually pretty good, compared to many other other cities and states:

If you’d like to do a deeper dive (it is water, after all), again EWG has a great resource you can use to check out water quality for your zip code. And data about water filters.

Here’s the catch. City and county water reports can be "massaged" to look better to federal regulators. Political pressure, bureaucracy and money can all play a part. At the end of the day, the people drinking the water may not be told the full story by the people who should be protecting the community. Just ask the residents of Riviera Beach, FL or Flint, Michigan.

The good news: Out of 55 PFAS chemicals tested, only one (called PFOS) showed up in my tap water. PFOS wasn’t one of the chemicals showing up in my blood tests, so that search continues. It’s been used in products like Teflon and in fire retardants.

The upshot here is there’s only one way to know what’s really in our water and whether our filters truly work: test it ourselves. When we use affordable DIY and lab tests, no one can hide or spin the results.

RECOMMENDATIONS

I suggest using the Varify instant DIY test and Cyclopure lab test (click the names to access the exact test). These are affordable, reputable kits you can use right at home. Cyclopure is a very easy test, but must be sent to a lab and takes a couple of weeks to get the results.

Here’ a clear list of action steps:

• Test your unfiltered tap water AND your filtered water (if you have a filter) so you have the before and after results.

• Email the results to reports@agencytools.pro. Or send by a carrier pigeon. I don’t mind.
  

  If you only want to test your tap water for now, that’s fine! Testing just the tap water with 1 of each test is a good start.

I’ll aggregate everyone’s data and report back, so we all have a clear, crowd-sourced picture of what we’re actually drinking AND which filters do the best job. Although I can tell you right now, gravity water filters (the countertop ones) will probably fail to remove PFAS.

If you don’t live in Clearwater, you can still do the tests and I’ll include the results separate from the Clearwater group. It'll be an interesting comparison, I imagine.

The Future:

Once I have the water test data from all participants, I’ll compile the results, and see if we can find a viable and practical solution.

Let’s get the facts and fix what we can in our own backyard, without waiting for some expert or official to take action.
